The 500 sq ft office perched on the 18th floor within the Ahmedabad skyline opens up with a small lobby-like area with a niftily concealed a pantry; “It acts as a ‘landing bay’ for receiving and serving visitors”, he says Ketan. The frosted and mirrored glass panel set in wood add a dimension of largeness to the space. The reception desk is a curling piece of wood that floats on arcing metal legs- a choice that’s repeated often for the other desks of the space. The ceiling is bare concrete painted in white to texturally contrast with the finished gray flooring: so, the eye is led towards the bottom plane more: right where the action happens.
The workspaces, his and the teams’, is half-hidden behind a metal grid that with only a few pots comes together as porous green element. Ketan prefers to be able to roll out his drawings and tracing sans any obstruction and so the workstations are all sprawling, unjointed, and softly lit with warm strip lights. His cabin is visually one with the rest of the office, but the glass partition affords a minimal separation for client meetings and brainstorms. One of the walls within is toned in a cool and a golden shade of white for a subtle division. This is one of the many material and finish varieties that the designer has tucked away into the corners of this office- ready for the gaze and touch of their clients. And so, this space duly becomes a leaf his portfolio where a glazed ceramic table for four sits eager for discussions.
